Why Was Uzzah Killed?
By Mark Flippo
2 Samuel Chapter
6-And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.
7-And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
Since the Ark of the Covenant was created there were laws for handling it. Who could ever touch it was also defined. Uzzah was not of the designated priest line to touch it. Disobedience of any kind was not tolerated in the Old Testament. Also the Ark was not being moved properly, another broken law! Growing up and hearing this story made me sad for Uzzah. I would ask God why when he was trying to do good did he have to die. He never answered me back then. Now that I am older and can really search this out I am understanding it much better.
Also this was a way that God showed them that He could take care of it without their help. In that moment God was angry with all involved in the moving of the Ark. Uzzah had bad timing! He paid for their mistakes with his life! Now David had time to search out and find out what all they did wrong. Uzzah's death was on King David for the wrongs that they committed against God! Be careful how you handle the things of God! Make sure your heart and mind are in the place they need to be!
