The City Of Refuge
By Mark Flippo
The Cities of Refuge were six Levitical towns in the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah in which the perpetrators of manslaughter could claim the right of asylum; outside of these cities, blood vengeance against such perpetrators was allowed by law. The Torah names the six cities as being cities of refuge: Golan, Ramoth, and Bosor, on the east of the Jordan River, and Kedesh, Shechem, and Hebron on the western side.
As long as you remained in the city you were safe. If you went outside the gate then you could be killed by a family or friend of the one who you killed. Today it is a little different. Character assassination can be devastating for a person. You will need to go to God for a place of refuge. By that I mean repentance and going to them when God says it is time to apologize!
If you killed someone it will be on your conscience for the rest of your life. You will need to go to the city set on a hill which is Christ Jesus! Throw yourself on His Mercy and be real in your repentance. He knows if you're just sorry you got caught. Repentance can save your soul. Pray and ask Him what you should do when you have been forgiven. He may send a person your way to advise you in your way back from the sin you committed!
