Do Toddlers Know More Than An Adult?
By Mark Flippo
My wife and I were watching a program about how our minds work. This episode was about compassion. They took 12 toddlers from the ages of 3 months to 12 months. They could not have started talking yet to be considered for this test. They saw three puppets, one was a cat trying to open a box but could not get the job done. One was a dog who when he saw the cat trying to open the box jumped on the box to make sure it stayed closed. The last dog saw the cat trying to open the box and helped it.
After the demonstration, each toddler was given the decision to choose one of the stuffed puppies. The mean one or the helpful one! 95% chose the helpful dog. Even at a young age they recognized compassion. We are born with compassion. We only loose it as we grow older and become cynical. Our life lessons should make us into better people but it does not always work that way. It feels so good when you can be charitable. Help your family, friends, your congregation, and your pastor and so many worthwhile causes that need your help. Jesus gave compassion to us at birth. It is our responsibility to keep love alive. Let us show Jesus in everything we do!
